    190 delegates from 26 countries met at the Academy's conference in Copenhagen last month, from 15-16 May. The event was headed by keynote presentations by Professor Bernard Gilmartin (Aston University) and Dr Barbara Ryan (Cardiff University).

  7. European Academy adopts new Code of Conduct

    The European Academy of Optometry and Optics has adopted the new Code of Conduct recently developed by the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO). The Code is focused on four key principles: prioritising patient care; being honest and trustworthy at all times; behaving in a professional manner and maintaining registration with the competent authority in your country.

  8. New understanding of Down's Syndrome eyesight

    The European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) today called for patients with Down's Syndrome and their carers to ensure that vision needs are regularly monitored following the release of new research into the structure of the eye in people with Down's Syndrome.

    The theme of World Sight Day 2009 (WSD09) is Gender & Eye Health - equal access to care, recognising that two-thirds of blind people worldwide are women and girls, and that in many places men have twice the access to eye care.   10. UVR labelling of spectacles and contact lenses called for

    The European Council of Optometry and Optics today called for the UVR labelling of spectacles and contact lenses. Comprehensive protection of the eyes against ultra violet radiation (UVR) requires not only a block in front of the cornea but also the sides of the eye, in particular the adjacent limbal and conjunctival stem cells of the eye.
